Family Services Fundraiser Nets $400,000

'Happy Days'-Themed Event Benefits Child & Family Service

About 800 people on Saturday night were transported back to the 1950s to raise money for child abuse prevention and domestic violence programs.

The "Happy Days"-themed event was hosted by the private, nonprofit Child & Family Service, which says federal and state funding was slashed severely, just when calls to the agency's hot line jumped dramatically.

"Because of the federal cutbacks, there is such a need for operational funds, so that's what tonight's event is for," Child & Family Service board member Kathy Inouye said. "To help the women and children of the shelter."

The goal was to raise $400,000 and it appears they surpassed that.

Actress and singer Tia Carrere was one of the special guests. And sharing emcee duties were comedian Andy Bumatai and KITV's Paula Akana.
