Big Island Police Say Speed Involved In Fatal CrashMotorcyclist Killed After Broadsiding Car At IntersectionPOSTED: 1:15 pm HST July 14, 2009 HONOLULU -- Big Island police said speed was involved in the crash of a motorcycle and car in Hilo on Monday.The crash happened at the intersection of Hawaii Belt Road and Makalika Street shortly before noon.A 67-year-old Kurtistown woman was turning left onto Hawaii Belt Road when a motorcycle traveling north on the roadway slammed into the car in the intersection, police said.Emergency personnel treated the victim and took him to Hilo Medical Center, where he died at 2:05 p.m.Authorities identified the motorcyclist as Joseph Flood Sr., 57, of Hilo. He was not wearing a helmet, police said.The driver of the car was not injured.
