The Army could cut up to 20,000 soldiers from Hawaii bases as part of a national realignment.
The Army says the cuts are necessary to meet the requirements of the Budget Control Act of 2011. Nearly all Army installations will be affected.
For Army Garrison Hawaii the realignment could mean cutting 16,000 soldiers from Schofield Barracks and 3,800 soldiers from Fort Shafter.
The public is invited to comment on the possible reductions until Aug. 25.
