A 49-year-old man was electrocuted Wednesday in an area next to Windward Community College, officials said.

Emergency crews received a call at about 11 a.m.

The victim had been picking avocados on a trail in a garden next to the school and Kaneohe District Park.

The man caught a pole with a mango picker on the end on a live electrical wire, officials said.

Emergency teams could not move in right away because the pole was stuck on the live wire.

Hawaiian Electric Co. crews arrived and had to shut down power to the area.

The victim's family was at the scene.

The man was declared dead at the scene.
