HONOLULU -- Police said a man in his 30s died after an altercation in Waikiki that stemmed from a botched robbery Monday night. Investigators identified the man as the robbery suspect.

It happened shortly before 9 p.m. at the ABC Store in the Hyatt Regency.

The man tried to rob the store when an employee caught him in the act, police said. The man allegedly assaulted the employee and a bystander intervened.

During the struggle, the man fell unconscious and later died at a nearby hospital.
