Waipio Brush Fire Burns 25 Acres

Firefighters Battle To Keep Fire From Residential Areas

Honolulu firefighters battled to extinguish a brush fire that burned behind Central Oahu Regional District Park in Waipio on Wednesday.

The Honolulu Fire Department received the first call at about 11:30 a.m.

HFD dispatched 45 firefighters with eight engines and three water tankers. Getting the fire under control took several hours.

The fire did not threaten any people or residential properties, but it did create a lot of smoke.

Investigators are trying to determine what caused the fire.
