Kauai Hikers Rescued Off Nonou Mountain

Police Use e911 System To Find Hikers

Kauai police rescued two Wailua men after they fell off an unmarked trail on Nonou Mountain, also known as the Sleeping Giant.

The two men were hiking on the mountain when they slipped and became disoriented, officials said.

They contacted Kauai police at about 3:55 p.m. Rescue workers responded, using the tracking system, e911, which enabled the workers to locate the hikers' position through their cell phones.

The two men were rescued by rescue helicopter at about 4:30 p.m., officials said. Neither men required medical assistance.
