The Department of Defense announced Thursday the death of a Hawaii based airman who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Officials said 25-year-old Lt. Roslyn L. Schulte, of St. Louis, Mo., died May 20 near Kabul, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered from an improvised explosive device. The bomb hit her vehicle

She was assigned to the Headquarters, Pacific Air Forces Command at Hickam Air Force Base. The 2006 Air Force Academy graduate was an intelligence officer assigned to 13th Air Force's 613th Air and Space Operations Center.

"Losing Lieutenant Schulte has been a tragedy felt by everyone here and across the Air Force," Col. Terrence O'Shaughnessy said in a written statement. "Our deepest sympathies and prayers are with the family of this heroic Airman. She was taken from us while serving her nation honorably, and the Airmen of the 613th Air and Space Operations Center will forever be proud of her."
