HONOLULU -- The state on Friday released underwater video of some of the reef damage caused from the grounding of the Navy ship USS Port Royal. The $1 billion warship ran around in waters just off the Honolulu International Airport's Reef Runway more than three months ago.The underwater video showed divers assessing the damage a few days after the Navy dislodged the vessel. There is damage from the initial impact, from cables and anchor lines and the rubble being tossed around by waves, officials said.Divers have since been working to reattach coral. They are also trying to remove rubble from the area before seasonal high surf arrives on the south shore. Officials said they are concerned that the rubble could cause more damage when tossed by the surf.Meanwhile, the Port Royal went into dry dock for repairs. Officials estimated that it could cost between $25 million and $40 million to fix the damage to the vessel. The Port Royal damaged between 6 to 10 acres of reef, state officials said.
