Daniel Kahanaoi Entering Cell Block
Honolulu police on Thursday charged a man with second-degree murder in the shooting death of a defense attorney at his Kailua home.

Police arrested Daniel Kahanaoi, 45, shortly after Tuesday night's shooting at his home in the Ahuimanu area in Kaneohe.

Kahanaoi shot attorney Craig Kimsel twice, in the neck and the back, according to court records.

Police tracked down Kahanaoi through personalized license plates on his pickup truck. Three witnesses later identified him, court documents showed.

Police said they believe the shooting may have stemmed from a jealous rage over an ex-girlfriend. Rusty Anoba said she was hiding from Kahanaoi at Kimsel's home on Oneawa Street that night.

Anoba was once Kimsel's client and girlfriend.

Both Anoba and Kimsel had separate restraining orders against Kahanaoi prior to the shooting.
