Anderson Joins Crowded Field For Special Election

HONOLULU -- The husband of the late Councilwoman Barbara Marshall announced on Monday afternoon that he is endorsing one of her aides to fill her seat.Marshall had represented Honolulu City Council District 3, which includes Waimanalo, Kailua and Kaneohe, since January 2003. She died on Feb. 22.Cliff Ziens endorsed Ikaika Anderson, 31. Anderson worked for Marshall for the past six years.Anderson lives in Waimanalo with his wife and two children. He ran twice unsuccessfully for state House.He joins a crowded field of more six candidates including former council members John Henry Felix and Steve Holmes and former Democratic state executive director Pohai Ryan. The special election will be held on April 6 to 23 through voter absentee mail-in. Anyone who needs the use of a special access voting machine can go to City Hall from April 6 to 21.Monday was the last day to file nomination papers for the election.
