POSTED: 4:02 pm HST March 5, 2009

Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard has scheduled a job fair to fill 180 positions this month, officials said.

The job fair is scheduled for March 28, from 8:30 a.m. to noon, at Honolulu Community College.

Shipyard officials plan to hire a minimum of 100 apprentice positions in January 2010 and up to 80 engineer and engineering support positions.

Those who enter the apprenticeship spend four years in work-study programs that pay trainees while they earn an associate's degree. Pay starts at $18.30 or more an hour. At the end of four years an apprentice can earn $27 or more an hour.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old by Jan. 10, 2010, a U.S. citizen and a high school graduate. They must also pass a physical and academic test.

Applications for apprenticeships will be available online from March 28 to April 11 at https://acep.hawaii.navy.mil.

Engineers can earn from $54,000 to $91,000 a year.

Applicants for engineer and engineering support positions should e-mail their resumes to dave.alison@navy.mil. The deadline is April 5.
