Ex-Girlfriend Accuses Newman Of Sex Assault

HONOLULU -- An all-state Wahiawa high school football star pleaded not guilty Tuesday to a sex assault charge that could bring a 20-year sentence.Authorities charged Leilehua High School running back Rico Newman with first-degree sexual assault on his ex-girlfriend, who is the mother of his 2-year-old son. She told police Newman punched, slapped and sexually assaulted her and accused her of seeing another man.Newman was freed on $100,000 bail. A judge set Newman's trial for April.
