DETROIT -- A 21-month-old boy was killed when a loaded gun accidentally went off in a Detroit home this weekend.
Damon Quarker tipped over a basket of clothes Saturday night and a loaded gun fell out and went off, shooting him in the heart, WDIV-TV in Detroit reported. Emergency crews were called to the home on Lakepointe Street and the child was transported to St. John Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The child's 23-year-old mother said that she had no idea a gun was even in the house."He was just kissing me," Yolanda Hode said about her child.Police said that the gun belonged to the child's grandparents who lived in the home, but they do not know why it was within the child's reach. They were apparently watching television in the living room when it happened.Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick visited with the family Sunday night. The Wayne County prosecutor's office said that nobody has been charged, but the incident is still under investigation.
