A Honolulu Fire Department unit confirmed the Kailua shark sighting at about 1:45 p.m.

HFD turned the case over to the city's Ocean Safety Division and DLNR.

Lifeguards warned beachgoers about the sighting, Ocean Safety spokesman Bryan Cheplic said. Workers also posted shark-warning signs.
