Shark Spotted Off Kalama Beach

Lifeguards Post Signs, Warn Beachgoers

A 6- to 8-foot long shark was seen swimming off Kalama Beach Park on Tuesday afternoon, a Department of Land and Natural Resources representatives said.

A Honolulu Fire Department unit confirmed the Kailua shark sighting at about 1:45 p.m.

HFD turned the case over to the city's Ocean Safety Division and DLNR.

Lifeguards warned beachgoers about the sighting, Ocean Safety spokesman Bryan Cheplic said. Workers also posted shark-warning signs.
