Kauai County officials on Monday identified three people who died in two separate drownings.

Tonya Cataldo, 39, of Parker, Colo., and her sister-in-law Heather Westphal, 33, of Washington, died after a large wave swept the two out to sea when they walked on a ledge at Queen's Bath on Sunday afternoon.

Lifeguards and firefighters retrieved the women and tried to revive them. They were pronounced dead at the Hanalei Fire Station.

Also on Sunday afternoon, a 74-year-old man from Japan died after swimming near the Lae Nani condominium.

Dispatchers received a call about an unresponsive swimmer. Bystanders performed CPR on Hiroaki Kinjo until emergency responders arrived.

Paramedics took Kinjo to Wilcox Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
