Torpedo Found At Dump Near Bellows

Fire Department Calls In Marine Explosives Team

Emergency crews were called to Bellows Air Force Station on Windward Oahu after someone reported finding a torpedo.

Honolulu and federal fire departments responded to a dump area near Bellows by Tinker Road just before 1:45 p.m.

Federal firefighters determined the device was a torpedo that was uncovered. Authorities called in the Explosive Ordinance Detachment from Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe.

Some cabins in the area that had to be evacuated, officials said.
