The top three candidates for Honolulu mayor started their mornings early Friday on the last full day of campaigning before the primary election.

Incumbent Mayor Mufi Hannemann, Councilwoman Ann Kobayashi and University of Hawaii professor Panos Prevedouros started off with sign waving before heading to the Senior Fair Good Life Expo at the Neal S. Blaisdell Center.

"Senior citizens are really a great group. They all vote they have their minds made up they know what they want and who they want," Kobayashi said.

The candidates shook hands and urged voters to choose them at the polls on Saturday.

"We've been beating the bushes, shaking a lot of hands, talking to a lot of people. People like our record; they like what we are doing," Hannemann said.

Prevedouros also stopped off at a Stop Rail Now event.

"I believe a train is very expensive and is not going to do anything with our real problems, which is traffic congestion and mobility," he said.

Each of the candidates planned to gather with supporters for sign waving in the afternoon rush-hour traffic.

A candidate could win the election outright on Saturday if he or she receives 50 percent of vote plus one ballot.
