Native Hawaiian Group Takes Over Iolani Palace

Police Arrest 15 People

Members of the Kingdom of Hawaii Nation stood guard at the Iolani Palace gates Friday evening, claiming rightful ownership.

The group locked all gates and only allowed employees in. The group raised their flag signifying their takeover of the palace.

The native Hawaiian group claims they are the rightful owners of the palace.

At around 8:20 p.m., an alarm sounded from the palace.

The Honolulu Police Department, SWAT officers and the sheriff's department said they stormed the grounds and led the protesters off the premises one by one.

Police said 15 members of the group were arrested.
