Event To Refocus On Agriculture

The Hawaii State Farm Fair kicks off this weekend and there are big changes.

The Farm Fair this year will still have all of the animals, local produce and booths, but this year it will be in town at Bishop Museum for one weekend only and there will be no adult carnival rides.

It is important to promote local farms, especially since it's tough for them to survive, organizers said.

"We wanted to get back to the roots get back to what we know -- agricultural. I think bring agriculture to the city is a great thing," said Alan Takemoto of the Hawaii Farm Bureau Federation.

Members of the 4-H Club said the fair is "shear" fun and they spent the day getting their animals ready for auction and sale at the auction this weekend.

The Hawaii State Farm Fair is Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 4 to 12.
