HONOLULU -- A shark bit a woman's arm while she was in the water off Makaha on Friday morning, police said.
It happened at about 8:45 a.m. at Mauna Lahilahi Beach Park, according to police.

The woman was snorkeling when the shark bit her. Her husband was surfing nearby, officials said.
Hawaii Princess Resort worker Tony Chapman heard the woman plead for help.
"It was a big gash maybe about that much and it was wide. The shark had done some damage," he said. "I went to go get a tourniquet to put on her arm because she was bleeding pretty bad, and she informed she was a doctor."
A Honolulu Police Department helicopter spotted a shark from above.
The Department of Land and Natural Resources and City and County lifeguards patrolled the area throughout the day.
"Our rescue craft operator is out there. He actually did spot a very, very large tiger it appears that it is pregnant," Emergency Medical Services spokesman Bryan Cheplic said.
Officials closed the beaches and posted signs warning of a shark sighting. They will determine Saturday morning whether to reopen the beaches.
