A man is in critical condition after being hit by a car last night in Kailua.

It happened just after 9 p.m. when the victim, a 27-year-old man from Hilo, was hit by a white Ford van while trying to cross Kailua Road near Uluoa Street.

The driver of the van, an 87-year-old male from Kaneohe, was heading east in the left lane when he struck the pedestrian in the crosswalk.

The victim suffered head, leg, and torso injuries. Police said speed, alcohol, and drugs were not factors in the crash.
