Burglar Steals Woman's ATM Card 4 Times

Police Say Man Stole Nearly $20,000

The Honolulu Police Department is asking for help identifying a man who may be responsible for repeatedly stealing an elderly Kaneohe woman's ATM card and using it to take nearly $20,000 from her bank account.

The 85-year-old woman lives alone on Hui Kelu Street in Temple Valley, police said.

Someone burglarized her home four times between Dec. 31 and mid-April. Each time the burglar stole only her ATM card, police said.

Surveillance pictures show the man using her ATM card to steal $18,000 from her account.

He took her pass code each time she was issued a new card, and he used the cards 14 times at the American Savings ATM in Windward City Shopping Center.

Detectives believe the suspect may be a neighbor, relative or acquaintance of the woman.

"These elderly people, they're living on fixed income as it is, and he's depleting this account. So, we really need and encourage the public to come forward and help us find who this is," Sgt. Kim Buffett said.

Police do not have much of a description of the man. He has a mustache in the surveillance photos, but police are not sure if it is a disguise. He also wore a cap and kept his face down in the pictures, so it is hard to see what he looks like.

Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300.
