Kauai's Department of Water on Thursday asked the public to reduce the amount of water residents use.

Residents in East Kilauea should particularly work to drop their usage, county officials said. East Kilauea residences include those located on Wailapa and Huli roads, Waiakalua and North Waiakalua streets, Ko`olau and Kapuna roads, and Kûhi‘ô Highway from Wailapa to Kapuna roads.

Officials reported seeing a significant increase in water usage there recently.

DOW officials are investigating why East Kilauea has had a high demand for water.
