HFD Looking for Firefighter Recruits

POSTED: 3:46 pm HST May 16, 2008

The Honolulu Fire Department is looking for new recruits and will be accepting applications online.

The online applications period begins at 12 a.m. on June 1 and ends at 11:59 p.m. on June 5. Paper applications will not be accepted. (Application Site)

People who do not have computer access can use computers at Oahu Work Links, public libraries and some community parks. The Department of Human Resources office on the 10th Floor of the Fasi Municipal Building will have a few computers available during the designated dates.

Starting July 1, HFD recruits earn $3,377 a month for one year. The salary then climbs to $3,652 a month.

In 2005, a majority of the 4,107 applicants met the qualifications to take the written examination. Only 2,309 took the written exam, with 601 people passing. Since then, HFD trained about 130 recruits.
