Fallen HPD Officers Honored

A memorial was held Monday night to honor 41 Honolulu Police Department officers killed in the line of duty since 1903.

Candles were placed next to each of their pictures at the Holy Family Catholic Church on Main Street.

As some shed tears over lost loved ones, police praised the bravery and sacrifice of their department.

"Respect fairness integrity all the things that make up the Honolulu Police Department, the family we call upon is what we take pride in and give thanks," HPD Chaplain Jack Smith said.

The department's most recent casualty, Officer Steve Favela, died when his motorcycle crashed in President George W. Bush's motorcade in November 2005.
