City Council Considers Boot For Traffic Fines

The Honolulu City Council will work on a bill that could clamp down on motorists who pile up parking tickets.

That is what police are doing in cities like San Francisco. The police stick a boot on the tire that keeps your car from going anywhere until your parking fines.

Councilman Charles Djou want to have a similar boot system for Oahu.

"I think the idea of using a boot is a good one. Most cities throughout the United States have a boot system, where if you don't pay your traffic fines on time you get a boot slapped on," Djou said.

Djou thinks Honolulu's boot system should copy Denver's in which police give drivers a code to unlock their booted cars the minute they pay their fines.
