Flood Watch Posted For Kauai

Watch Canceled For Other Islands; Tradewinds To Return

A flash flood watch remains posted for the island of Kauai until late Thursday afternoon. The watch means conditions are present that could lead to flash flooding, and that residents should be prepared to take action if flooding occurs, or a flash flood warning is issued.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service canceled the flash flood watch for all other islands at 4 a.m. Thursday, as weather conditions began to become slightly more stable overnight.

An upper-level low responsible for the unstable conditions was 700 miles southwest of Honolulu early Thursday. It is expected to weaken slowly through Friday, allowing tradewinds to return and strengthen. The return of those winds also will clear the volcanic haze that spread statewide and forced officials to close Hawaii Volcanoes National Park Tuesday and Wednesday.
