HONOLULU -- Perenial winner Hula Hälau O Kamuela captured the overall title to the 45th annual Merrie Monarch Festival on Saturday night in Hilo.

Kumu hulas Kau1ioalani Kamana`o and Kunewa Mook's Oahu halau won the auana and kahiko titles for the wahine.

Kumu hula Sonny Ching's Hälau Nä Mamo O Pu’uanahulu kane won both the kahiko and auana. The kane came in second overall to the wahine of Hula Hälau O Kamuela.

Hula Hälau O Kamuela's dominance has carried on year after year in placing among the top halau and winning overall titles. They captured the wahine titles last year as well.

For the first time California halau Hälau Keali’i O Nälani placed, taking fourth place in the kane kahiko division.

For the seventh year, KITV.com broadcast the event online to thousands of viewers. This year, hula fans watched from all over the United States plus such countries as Japan, Canada, Mexico, Holland, Germany, the United Kingdom, Oman and more.
