"Today's news is a shock and huge disappointment. It's a very sad day for everyone when a Hawaii institution like Aloha Airlines ends passenger service. Above all, I am deeply concerned about the 1,900 Aloha Airlines employees who are losing their jobs. The ripple effect will hurt all of us."

- U.S. Rep. Mazie Hirono

"We at Hawaiian are related to them not only through this industry, but also in many cases our employees are related to them by blood, and we can only imagine the difficult, difficult day it is for them today."

- Hawaiian Airlines President and Chief Executive Officer Mark Dunkerly

"This is a very troubling development that will have far-reaching consequences. My heart goes out to the employees who have devoted their careers, and made so many personal sacrifices, to keep Aloha Airlines serving the people of Hawaii over the years."

- Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann

"This is a very sad day for all employees of Aloha Airlines. Their employees are part of our community and our hearts go out to them during this difficult transition. Aloha Airlines has over 500 Maui employees and has been the county's 11th largest private employer. The company has served our local businesses, brought together families on different islands and has given our school children many opportunities to experience off island field trips. Aloha Airlines has had a good relationship with our entire community and they will undoubtedly be missed."

- Maui Mayor Charmaine Tavares
