HONOLULU -- Kamehameha Schools CEO Hamilton McCubbin hosted a "private reception" at his Kahala home Saturday night after announcing earlier in the week that the school admitted a non-Hawaiian student on Maui.
Another meeting with the alumni association is scheduled for 6:00 PM Monday at the school's auditorium.
On Friday, Kamehameha Schools graduate Leroy Akamine urged McCubbin to meet with parents and alumni.
"For us as graduates and beneficiaries, there is certainly a need for information sharing," said Akamine.
Akamine said the decision to admit a non-Hawaiian at the schoo's Maui campus caught the alumni council by surprise.
But he also feels that the school board would consider the community's concerns in the future.
"We can look forward to more inclusion of the policy decisions of the board and administrators so that the alumni can be woven into the loop," said Akamine.
Other Kamehameha graduates say that there are recent policy decisions they are also unhappy with which includes the elimination of the Jr. ROTC program and changing the name of the "Bishop Estate Trust" to "Kamehameha Schools."
