Public Meetings To Promote Oahu Transit Project

HONOLULU -- Community members around Oahu will have a chance to learn more about the new mass transit program at public meetings.Mayor Mufi Hannemann and members of the transit project team are holding a series of community meetings starting this week to answer questions and share information.

The first of the meetings begins on Monday at Kapolei Middle School from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. On Wednesday, a second meeting will take place at Alvah Scott Elementary School in Aiea, also from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.Experts on a technology panel recommend steel wheel on steel rail as the best choice for Oahu's new transit system.The Honolulu City Council's Transportation Committee members agreed, voting 4 to 1 to give steel wheel technology first-round approval with some concerns.Meeting Times, Locations:Wednesday: Alvah Scott Elementary School in Aiea, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. March. 17: Waipahu Elementary School cafeteria, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. March 18: Farrington High School library, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
