Former Bishop Estate Trustee Free On Bail After Alleged ChasePolice Say Gerard Jervis Caught Teens 'Egging' HousePOSTED: 4:26 am HST March 10,
2008 HONOLULU -- Former Bishop Estate Trustee Gerard Jervis is free on bail after being arrested over the weekend following a car chase in Lanikai.Jervis was arrested on suspicion of criminal property damage and drunken driving.Police said Jervis chased four teenagers in a sport utility vehicle after he caught them throwing eggs at, or "egging," his home.Lanikai residents were still talking about the car chase on Sunday, and the evidence of the chase that still remains: a leaning and damaged utility pole."There's a fire, the police, the fire trucks, the ambulance. The car up the pole," said Lanikai resident Bruce Dinman.Police believe Jervis chased the SUV and rammed their vehicle, lifting the vehicle off the ground and causing it to hit a utility pole.No one was injured.Jervis' neighbors said they have long been frustrated about frequent vandalism in this neighborhood."I had my house paint-balled a few times. Never did catch the people, but, boy, it sure made me irate," said resident Raymond Frieszell.Other neighbors said their houses have been vandalized as well, many saying that teens had thrown eggs on their homes."It's a real problem here in Lanikai," Kathy Dinman said. Most neighbors barely stopped short of applauding Jervis.First thought I had was, 'Man, right on for that guy for doing what he did.' I then thought, maybe it was a little bit extreme. But sometimes those things need to be stopped," Frieszell said."Quite frankly, it doesn't break my heart that someone who was egging everybody got it back," Bruce Dinman said. "I hope the egging stops.""I understand the anger," Kathy Dinman said."(Jervis) is a good guy. And so, I guess he just got teed off with the egging. I'm glad the kids are OK," Bruce Dinman said. There are others in this neighborhood who haven't been touched by vandalism, but are stunned by their neighbor's behavior."I just couldn't believe it. But maybe he had his reasons. I really don't know," said resident Soonie Yee Hoy.Police said all four teenagers are students at St. Louis High School. Police have launched a harassment investigation against the boys in connection to the egg-throwing incident. Copyright 2008 by KITV.com All rights reserved.
