Man Accused Of Trying To Push Guard Out Of BuildingAttacker Shoot's Apartment Resident With Fire ExtinguisherPOSTED: 1:33 am HST February 23, 2008 HONOLULU -- A security guard was nearly thrown out of a high-rise building and another man shot with a fire extinguisher during an incident on FridayThe violent encounters happened at the Ala Wai Plaza at 500 University Avenue near Ala Wai Elementary School at about 5 p.m.Police arrested a man nearby and took him to Honolulu Police Department Headquarters on attempted murder charges. Police did not release the man's name.Residents said they are shaken up after witnessing the violent scene. Witnesses reported a man dangling from the 26th floor."It appeared he was being pushed out of the window. The victim was a security guard here and he was yelling and screaming," Lt. Art Kurosu said.Residents said they could hear the cries for help throughout the building.Police said it appears that the man they arrested confronted a 63-year-old security officer.The two got into a scuffle and a fire extinguisher was used to break the window, witnesses said. The victim's blood could be seen four floors down.Minutes before the yelling and screaming, Pierre Jaffuer said he heard a loud commotion outside his penthouse."He was banging on the doors up there. He was banging on the walls," Jaffuer said.Jaffuer went to check it out and said he encountered the man."His face was not normal. I keep telling him 'Take it easy. Wait, wait. Take it easy.' And I keep backing up because I could see he's going to hit me with this (fire extinguisher). I didn't want to get that," Jaffuer said.The man shot him with the fire extinguisher as he tried to get away, Jaffuer said."When I get inside the gate, then he banged his hand on the gate. He shot me right in the face with the fire extinguisher and I was blind," Jaffuer said.Shortly after the attacks, police took the suspect into custody about a block away. He was barefoot with a cut on his forehead.Witnesses said the man appeared under the influence of drugs.Police said they did not have a motive.The security officer was last reported in serious condition.The neighbors KITV spoke with said they did not recognize the man accused of the attacks.
