A long-awaited improvement was finally opened on Friday at the Ala Wai Boat Harbor.

State harbor officials celebrated the completion of the new "F" dock with a blessing on Friday.

The old dock was demolished nearly four years ago, and has not been replaced until now.

It is part of a series of improvements ahead for the Ala Wai Boat Harbor.

"It's exciting. It's great to see a new 'F' dock here, great to see the empty space gone, and some more new faces coming in, hopefully," harbor resident Jim Kiehl said.

"We're going to have future improvements. So it's going to accommodate those future improvements from the B, C and D docks, which will be coming up shortly," Ala Wai Harbormaster Ken Chee said.

The new floating dock cost $935,000 and can accommodate 70 boats.

Work to replace three other docks will begin in September.
