State workers took a 3-foot-long iguana that turned up on the Windward side into custody.

An unidentified person captured the iguana on a roadside in Waimanalo and turned it over to Kailua police.

Iguanas can grow up to 6 feet in length from head to tail, which they can use as a dangerous weapon in fending off enemies.

It is illegal to possess or transport iguanas in Hawaii. Anyone possessing illegal animals is subject to fines of up to $200,000 and up to three years in prison.

The lizard is now in the custody of the Department of Agriculture.
