Many Hawaii Post Offices Closing Early On Christmas Eve

All but two post offices in Hawaii will open for business on Christmas Eve, but many will shorten their hours, U.S. Postal Service officials said on Friday.

Regular mail delivery will not be affected, officials said.

Two offices on Pearl Harbor Naval Air Station will be closed at the request of the base commander, USPS officials said.

Forty-five offices will close early to allow workers to start their holiday early. The number of people who go to the post offices goes down drastically, Postal Service Honolulu District Manager Daryl Ishizaki said.

"We view this as an opportunity to afford some of our postal employees more time with their families by closing retail operations in many locations early on Dec. 24," he said.

Most of the locations will close at 2 p.m.
