New Inspectors Begin Work Monday

POSTED: 6:31 p.m. HST May 30, 2002

The city said eight retired Honolulu police officers will replace the liquor inspectors who were indicted last week on bribery charges.

City Managing Director Ben Lee said they will start work on Monday. Lee said he will meet with HPD and the Liquor Commission in the next few weeks to figure out how to fix the system.

"How we can improve the operation of the Liquor Commission and also the enforcement of liquor establishments get a better handle on the integrity our liquor inspectors," Lee said.

Lee said the new inspectors will start on Monday.

There are hired on an 89 day contract basis. Pay will range from $2,200 a month to $3,200.
