HONOLULU -- A city councilman wants to establish a panel of top city officials to restructure the Liquor Commission.
More than half of its liquor inspectors were indicted last week on bribery charges.
Councilman John Henry Felix said those on the panel should include the city's managing director, the liquor commission's volunteer chairman, its paid administrator and the police chief.
Felix said the group should come up with ways for the commission to safeguard against corruption and raise its operating standards.
Last Thursday, a federal jury indicted eight city liquor inspectors, claiming they accepted bribes from more than 40 Oahu bars for lenient treatment.
