A 72-year-old woman was critically injured when an 11-year-old boy barreled into a wall with a pickup truck.

Paul Laulu, 11, and his father, Antonio, are still stunned over the incident.

It happened when Antonio was teaching his son how to start up a pickup truck.

"I say to my son, 'If you shift the gear, before you got to step on the brake.' That's my big mistake," Antonio Laulu said.

Paul Laulu was in the driver's seat. His father was standing beside him outside the truck.

"My son shift the gear, and he put his feet on the gas. He thinks that's the brake," Antonio Laulu said.

Antonio Laulu tried to use his body to stop the truck as it reversed out of the driveway.

"But my son, I think was too nervous and scared," Antonio Laulu said. "The car was rolling straight down really fast, and we tried to stop 'em -- Was too late already."

The truck ran over Antonio's right leg and foot before crossing the street and crashing into a wrought iron fence and hollow tiled wall.

Police believe a piece of iron fencing hit the 72-year-old woman who was in the area.

"I heard somebody cried and yelling," Antonio Laulu said.

Paramedics took the woman to the Queen's Medical Center, where Antonio's family has tried to visit her.

Although they have not seen her yet, Antonio Laulu has spoken to the woman's family and given them his heartfelt apologies.

"We're really sorry about that," Antonio Laulu said. "It's my mistake; not supposed to happen."
