Former Union Leader Rodrigues To Begin Prison SentencePOSTED: 3:36 pm HST November 8,
2007 HONOLULU -- A federal judge has upheld the sentences of the man who was once Hawaii's most powerful union leader.Gary Rodrigues is heading to prison five years after being convicted of fraud and taking kickbacks. Rodrigues was sentenced to 64 months in prison. His daughter, Robin Sabatini, was sentenced to 46 months.Their sentences were delayed during a long appeal, which was rejected three months ago.Judge David Ezra has ordered them to prison on Jan. 7.Ezra had previously fined Rodrigues $50,000, placed him on three years of supervised probation after his release and ordered him to pay $378,000 restitution to the union.Rodrigues led the United Public Workers Union for years.
