The state Senate wants to hold a special legislative session on the Hawaii Superferry next week.

Lawmakers said they expect it will last about six or seven days because senators also have a number of appointments to take up.

"Monday is not optimistic for kicking it off because for us in the Senate, we have to start on our confirmations early on so we would like some lead time in the whole process," Senate President Colleen Hanabusa said.

Senators asked the governor come up with any conditions to mitigate environmental concerns, Hanabusa said. They also want an audit of the process leading up to the administration's decision on the Superferry.

The senators expect to have a draft proposal ready to take out to hearings on the neighbor islands before the session starts.

Lawmakers in the House will caucus on Wednesday. They said they prefer a five-day session that would start Monday.
