Insiko Dog Found Alive

POSTED: 10:38 p.m. HST April 20, 2002

The Coast Guard has found the dog from the Indonesian tanker Insiko alive Saturday during a mission to see if the ship posed an environmental threat to Johnston Island.

The dog named "Forgea" was seen on the Insiko at about 4:15 PM Saturday.

The ship is now about 250 nautical miles east of Johnston Island.

The Coast Guard also dropped pizza and unwrapped granola bars on the ship for the dog to eat.

The Insiko has been adrift with the dog and 200 tons of fuel since its crew was rescued on April 2.

Officials have notified the Hawaiian Humane Society of the Insiko's location.
