Volunteers with Hawaii's Meals on Wheels on Friday received a boost to their gas tank.

Tesoro donated $6,000 worth of gas cards to help volunteers deliver food to homebound seniors.

As part of the campaign, for every gallon of gas that customers buy, 2 cents will go to help the organization. The fundraising effort will last through the weekend.

"Meals on Wheels is definitely an organization that we want to develop a sustained partnership," said Jeanette Bega of Tesoro Hawaii.

"After you get to know your clients, you aren't going to let them go hungry. If somebody gets sick and can't make their route, someone else will pitch in, and I'm always glad to pitch in," volunteer Shirley Morgado said.

Morgado became a volunteer after the program helped her ill father.

She and others helped to wash windows and pump gas on Friday to thank customers for their donations.

The promotion first started last year and is now an annual event across the country.
