HONOLULU -- About 4,000 people had the opportunity to board the Superferry for a guided introduction and tour of the vessel.

Event officials said the tour was so successful that they are already planning a second.

Upstairs there are three separate dining areas.

"Like a mansion -- it's beautiful. (It's) like a moving hotel. A castle you can enjoy. It's very relaxing. Whatever you want, it's here," said one person who was able to view the ferry.

Many headed straight for the premium lounge, where for $20 more a ticket, a person can enjoy beautiful views off the bow from lounge chairs.

"I think we maybe plan to do a family trip later this year, so it looks like a lot of fun," said a visitor to the Superferry.

Visitors were able to check out the entire Superferry from the three separate dining rooms to the play area for children. The ferry also boats 34 flat screen TVs.

Ferry officials said the three snack bars on the ship will serve pastries like croissants and scones, but they will also sell salad and sandwiches and local food like saimin, manapua and spam musubi.

Officials said the ferry is fully wheelchair-accessible, and the undercarriage is able to hold 110 vehicles.

"I can't wait for this thing to get going. In fact, we should start now," one enthused viewer said.

Travel between Oahu, Kauai and Maui begins in September. Big Island service will not begin until 2009, officials said.

The cost for a passenger on a one-way trip from Oahu to Maui can cost about $60. A roundtrip from Oahu to Kauai with a vehicle and one passenger can run about $270. There are premium upgrades and other costs when adding people. The costs are also different depending on the size of the vehicle.
