Superferry To Arrive This Weekend

Passenger, Vehicle Service To Begin August

POSTED: 6:52 pm HST June 26, 2007

Officials said it's the final leg for the Hawaii Superferry, which left Long Beach Harbor Tuesday morning.

Superferry officials said they expect the "Alakai" to arrive in Honolulu this weekend -- passenger service could begin as early as the end of August.

One-way regular adult passenger fares will range between $44 and $62. Officials said each passenger would be charged a fuel surcharge that will range between $14 and $19 per a one-way regular adult passenger fare.

They said that charges for transporting a car would cost slightly more at $18 to $21 for a one-way trip.

Both the passenger and vehicle surcharges will vary each month depending on the cost of fuel, officials said.

Officials said that the Superferry is more than just a boat.

"We are offering something that is really a travel experience for our residents and our visitors alike, as well as commercial businesses -- this is going to be tremendous value for them," said John Garibaldi, a spokesman for the Hawaii Superferry.
