HONOLULU -- A judge on Tuesday sentenced a man to life in prison for a 15-year-old murder case in which a body was never found. The defendant and the victim's sister spoke to each other at Monday's sentencing.A Circuit Court judge handed out a life sentence with a minimum of 15 years before probation to Jenaro Torres for the murder of Ruben Gallegos. The whereabouts of the victim's body remain a mystery."I'm sure Ruben wants to go home with us. Every time I come to the island I tell him 'I'm back Ruben. Show yourself. Help me find you. I want to take you home,'" Gallegos' sister, Blanca, said.It started in 1992 at the Pearl Harbor Navy Exchange. Torres, a base security guard, killed Gallegos, 19, who was a cashier at the Navy Exchange, after a robbery gone awry, prosecutors said.A witness later came forward who said Torres confessed to the murder.Blanca Gallegos told Torres in court that she has already forgiven him, but said she still wants to know where her brother is."Tell us where he is. Give us our life back. You've already taken so many years of our life because of this," Blanca Gallegos said."I wish I could say more, but there is nothing I can share with you as far as the missing person is concerned. That's beyond my powers. If I could I would," Torres said.Torres, who has maintained his innocence, told the victim's sister that he could not talk about details of the case because he plans to appeal. However, he said he is sorry for her missing brother."I'm a father. I'm a grandfather. I can sympathize with the feeling of having someone missing in your life," Torres said.Blanca Gallegos said she believes Torres has no remorse. She returns to Texas again without knowing where her brother is.
