Dick's Special Salad
POSTED: 11:58 a.m. HST February 18, 2002
For the record, I did NOT give Gary salad that was spilled on the ground. That was done as a sight gag by giving him a good salad first, and then spilling a fake salad later, then editing the two scenes together on video tape.
To do this right you need a special Japanese vegetable slicer called a Benriner Turning Slicer. They are made in Japan and you can get them a Shirokiya or Daiei.
Make a bed of shredded Romaine or Green Leaf Lettuce.
Add a handful of thin sliced zucchini, run through the slicer. Add grated or sliced carrot. Add thin sliced fennel bulb. Add sunflower sprouts. Add tamari roasted pumpkin seeds (important ingredient for flavor!) Add thin sliced red or Maui onion.
Gently toss, use Angelo Pietro Sesame Miso sauce. (Available at most local stores.)
Fresh ground pepper to taste.
Do not drop the salad on the ground before serving.
