HONOLULU -- Results from the KITV 4 News/Honolulu Star Bulletin poll show that a majority of voters asked were against a merger between Aloha Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines.
Public opposition to the plan does not discourage the man piloting the merger.

"I'm going to do my very best to fly that airplane and hold course and land it where we want to land it," said Greg Brenneman of Turnworks.
He said he's convinced public opinion will "turn around" once people understand the details of the plan in the coming months.
A group trying to derail the deal believes otherwise.
"In an election we call 61 percent a landslide," Richard Port of Citizens for Competitive Travel said.
Port called Brenneman's proposed a two-year cap on fares a desperate move and a clear sign that fares will go up.
"The people of Hawaii are wise in realizing the result will be a monopoly. That's bad for democracy for Hawaii, for citizens and the employees as well," Port said.
Both Hawaiian and Aloha declined to comment on the poll results.
Citizens for Competitive Travel said it's collected thousands of signatures on a petition against the merger. It plans to deliver the petition to the governor on Monday.
