HONOLULU -- KITV 4 News and the Honolulu Star Bulletin's poll found that Jeremy Harris may have been hurt by allegations of improper fund raising during his 2000 mayoral campaign.
From the last joint poll in May, to the newest poll, Harris' favorable numbers have dropped 7 percent, while his unfavorable rating went up.
Favorable marks for Republican frontrunner Linda Lingle remain roughly the same.
KITV 4 News and the Honolulu Star Bulletin asked voters if they're familiar with the Harris fund-raising investigation.
A total of 53 percent were very or somewhat familiar with the investigation. Of those, 59 percent said Harris should stay in the governor's race.
Harris' campaign manager, Lex Brodie, said Harris will do well over a period of time.
"And I truly believe that with the passage of time, you're going to see Jeremy's numbers going up, up, up. As of right now, Jeremy's numbers are very strong," Brodie said.
"I suppose that all the negative publicity that Jeremy has been getting has been driving his numbers down," Republican gubernatorial candidate Linda Lingle said.
Harris still has a sizeable lead over his two Democratic rivals: former Sen. Andy Anderson and Rep. Ed Case.
The poll was taken Jan. 26-Feb. 3. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
